Homelessness a Finalist in Book of the Year Awards!
As a wannabe writer, my dream was to have my writing validated by people who read and write for a living. I never dreamed that writing about homelessness, the homeless people who stole my heart and broke it, and how profoundly they affected my life, would make my dream come true.
The Concrete Killing Fields, One Woman's Battle to Break the Cycle of Homelessness has been recognized by two of the nation's leading reviewers/promoters of independently published books.
It's a National Medalist in the Independent Publishers' IPPY Awards, taking the Bronze medal in the Current Events: (Social Issues/Public Affairs/Ecological/ Humanitarian) category.
It's a Finalist for an IndieFab Book of the Year Award in the autobiography/ memoir category.
It also took 1st place in the non-fiction book category of The National Federation of Press Women’s (NFPW) at-large competition and has been entered in their national competition along with winners from 23 states with affiliate chapters.
As happy as I am with the recognition by professionals who read and write for a living, I am even more pleased that they clearly "got" the message. Homelessness is about a lot more than housing.
